Hickory Star

to Ansa Horse & Cattle. We are located in the undulating and picturesque area of West Gippsland. Heath Hill is situated 85 minutes south east of Melbourne. Here at Ansa, we breed quality quarter and paint performance horses and also run beef cattle.

After  successfully campaigning QH's (War Jessie - R/U High Point WGQHA), Paints (Indianna Jones - Vic. State Trail & Western Pleasure Champion) and Appaloosa’s (Corvid's Jessie Jet - High Point WGQHA, Vic. State Reining & Trail Champion, Western Riding Reserve Champion), it was decided in 1992 to purchase some QH and Paint mares and breed to a variety of stallions. In 2004 we moved from Pearcedale to Heath Hill and purchased our resident stallion Hickory Star (Q-32490).

For our broodmare band we have concentrated on proven QH and Paint bloodlines which have excelled in most performance areas. Glen's Sweet Sioux (PHAA) has produced Open Reining & PHAA Halter Champions at State and National levels (Sioux City Bandit, Bandit 303) and Finalists and Champions in Camp Drafting & Challenges (Sweet Peppy Sioux, Sweet Lil Annie, Hickory Sioux). Most exciting of all Sweet Peppy Sioux placed 8th. in a  field of 80 in the 2007 prestigious Cloncurry Stockman’s Challenge. Even in Barrel Racing  Sweet Peppy Sioux is a champion.  In Western Pleasure & Trail, Gamblin Girl (PHAA) has produced a PHAA state champion in trail and pleasure & Reserve Champion in Open Trail (Indiana Jones). Smokin Peppy's Girl (AQHA) has produced finalists in Campdrafting (Smokin Hickory). Our  progeny have been athletes that look good, are quiet and trainable and have sold throughout Australia to Vic, NSW, QLD, WA and NT.

Our horses by Hickory Star are now starting   to be ridden & we have had excellent feedback. Our goal at Ansa is to produce superior quality versatile performance horses that are particularly suited to amateur and junior competitors in all discipline areas as well as safe recreational horses. We want to breed the true all rounder and companion horse.

We will also continue to use the best outside and imported stallions to further increase our broodmare band. Stallions, the callibre of TR Dual Rey, Commanchie Shorty, Laredo Blue, One Roan Pepto & Winderadeen Short Play have been used for the 2009 & 2010 breeding season. We also plan to use imported semen from NCHA American Futurity Champion Spots Hot for a 2011 foal.
